Bethlehem – Basilica of the Nativity

The birthplace of Jesus, the Savior, is identified in Bethlehem, where the Basilica of the Nativity stands today. To take part in the census announced by the Romans, Joseph and Mary went from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to the small town of Bethlehem in Judaea, as Joseph belonged to the family of David. There, Mary gave birth and Jesus was born in what is known today as the “Grotto of the Nativity.”
